Sire Gaines, California Athlete Commits to Arizona State University

In an exciting announcement, the rising star and class of 2024 athlete from Orange Vista HS in Perris, CA, Sire Gaines, has officially committed to Arizona State University. The news, which was revealed last night, brought immense joy to Sun Devils fans and supporters.

According to the 247 Sports Composite rankings, Gaines holds an impressive standing. He is currently ranked as the 903rd player nationally, securing the No. 94 spot among athletes, and an outstanding 66th position in California. This young and talented athlete has caught the attention of many college coaches, but it was Coach AJ Cooper from Arizona State who succeeded in bringing Gaines on board.

While he was primarily recruited as a linebacker, Gaines possesses immense versatility on the field. Alongside his linebacker role, he has also made a name for himself as a skillful running back. Such dexterity and adaptability promise to be a significant asset for the Sun Devils in the seasons to come.

During his previous season, Gaines exhibited his prowess in 11 varsity games, leaving a lasting impact on both offensive and defensive fronts. On the defensive side, he tallied an impressive 27 tackles, with five of those resulting in a loss for the opposition. Additionally, Gaines recorded three sacks and an interception, further underlining his defensive abilities. On the offensive end, he showcased his speed and agility by rushing for an impressive 855 yards and scoring 16 touchdowns on just 89 carries. Moreover, Gaines proved his mettle as a reliable target in the passing game, boasting 49 receptions for 820 yards and nine touchdowns.

Before making his commitment, Gaines paid two visits to Arizona State. The most recent visit took place from June 16 to June 18, following an earlier trip on March 26. The Sun Devils’ pursuit of Gaines began early in the year, with an offer extended to him on February 15.

Interestingly, Arizona State was included in Gaines’ top-six list as far back as May 19. Alongside the Sun Devils, the other contenders were Washington State, Washington, Arizona, San Diego State, and Boise State. Over the following weeks, Gaines conducted official visits to San Diego State, Washington State, and Boise State, narrowing down his choices to three final contenders. In the end, it was Arizona State that captured his heart, leaving Boise State and Washington State behind.

Gaines’ decision to commit to Arizona State marks a significant moment for the university. He becomes the 17th member of the class of 2024 to pledge allegiance to the Sun Devils. Notably, he is the third player from California to join the ranks, joining OL Champ Westbrooks and LB Martell Hughes in the Sun Devils’ 2024 class. Additionally, as the third linebacker in the recruitment list, Gaines further strengthens the team’s defensive capabilities, complementing the earlier commitments of Hughes and Louisiana’s Albert Smith.

This commitment also marks a fresh beginning for Arizona State, as Gaines is the first athlete to commit to the university since July 4, when both LB Martell Hughes and Texas CB Chris Johnson Jr. declared their intentions to join the Sun Devils.

Sire Gaines’ commitment to Arizona State University has set the stage for an exciting and promising future. His outstanding performances and remarkable versatility on the field have proven him to be a standout athlete. With Gaines now in their ranks, the Sun Devils can look forward to achieving new heights in the seasons ahead.
